HARRIET WHEDON (1879-1958)

Beginning her art studies in her early forties at the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco, Whedon became an active member of the early modernist scene in the San Francisco Bay Area through the 1920s and 30s. Her close friends included artists such as Gottardo Piazzoni, Otis Oldfield, Lee Randolph, Rinaldo Cuneo, Hamilton Wolf, and many more.
About 1940 she continued her artistic career spending several years in New York, then later in Chicago before returning to the Bay Area.
Whedon was credited with laying the foundation for the San Francisco Art Center where she also exhibited, as well as being an active member and exhibitor of the San Francisco Art Association.
