"Wendy's House" was painted and exhibited during the years that McGlynn worked for Arthur Mathews in San Francisco.

McGlynn’s initial training began in 1899 where he entered the Mark Hopkins Art Institute- California School of Design in San Francisco, graduating in the same class as his close friend, Armin Hansen.

At that school Arthur Mathews became his mentor and later appointed him chief designer for Mathews' Furniture Shop from 1906-18.
